Last Thursday, March 5, ICA had the privilege of hosting a fundraising showing of The Drop Box Edwards Cinema San Marcos. The event, sponsored by Jeff Crane and Thrivent Financial, was attended by 250 guests.

The movie, directed by Brian Ivie, documents the life of Lee Jong-rak, a pastor in Seoul. Pastor Lee, burdened by the number of babies left to die in the streets, builds a box that is attached his home. Mothers are able to anonymously place their babies in the box the engraving:

Psalm 27:10: though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

Since it’s creation in 2009, more than 600 babies have found their way into the drop box.

There are currently 165 million orphans in the world, and 500,000 children in foster care in the United states alone. It is the hope of ICA that this movie will raise awareness for the plight of all orphans.

Money raised from this fundraiser will benefit ICA’s Welcome Home program. Welcome Home brings orphaned children to the United States from Latvia and the Phillipines with the hope of finding them a forever family. The movie seemed to strike the heart strings of many viewers. At the conclusion of the showing, a nine year old boy approached an ICA staff member and asked if he could give her some money to help the children. He proceeded to unzip his billfold and empty his wallet of nine cents–everything that he had. His child like faith drove him to sacrifice everything that he had for the sake of others.
